4th Graders Interact with Artist Dave

Fourth graders spent some quality time with Artist Dave yesterday as he gave some acting lessons! Students tried to pose, without talking or moving, to dramatize a message.

Dave also introduced a theme-writing contest, and students will write their thoughts on "Living in Harmony with Nature."

Artist Dave's project is amazing. I look at it everyday when I walk into the building. It is very cool to see the detail go into the project. One hour it is a detailed foot, the next it is a perfect shoe with laces.....

I love seeing our kids so involved with this project Artist Dave is doing. It is exciting to see the sculpture go through its construction. The kids seem to be really enjoying this.

Thank you Artist Dave for sharing your gift with the students, faculty, and staff of Keystone Elementary. You made our January fun and exciting, and we always looked forward to walking in the doors each morning to see the changes to the sculture.

Making the sculpture was fun. I like it a lot. It is pretty. I think I will be an artist when I grow up. I will make sculptures too. I liked squishing the clay.

Hi! The sculpture was hard to make. If you want to know the steps, here you go. Step 1 put the clay in your hands for 2 minutes. Step 2 make a pancake, then make a taco with it. Step 3 make a sphere. Step 4 make a cube. Do all of that 100 times. Thank you.

Artist Dave made a lot of statues. You would have to make a sphere into a cube. It looks like a girl flying a kite.

It was fun to make a sculpture. We had to do a lot of stuff to make it. We had to make a pancake, than make a taco to make it sticky so the clay would stick to the sculpture. We learned a lot of stuff.

I helped artist Dave put clay on the sculpture. On the arm and the belly.

I woke up and my dad said it is time to go hunting. So I go downstairs and eat a bowl of cereal and get ready. I wear a big camouflage coat with a black long sleeve shirt under it .I wear heavy camouflage jeans, and camo work boots an orange hat and vest. Camo gloves and binoculars around my neck.
My dad and I go to his tree stand and we are there for about 2 hrs and I see a big doe and I said “, I bet a buck comes in soon.
And sure enough a 4 point comes and we watch it for a while. And 45 minutes later a HUGE 9 point comes. It is only about 20 yards away I loaded my gun and I am ready to shoot.
I get my shot on and … BOOOOMM! Dead.
I shot it right behind the shoulder. My mom and sister were very proud of me. We cut the horns off and
I held them up. We took lots of pictures.

THE END!

I wake up to the smell of bacon. I put on my red T- Shirt. Then I put my old, tattered blue jeans on. After that I put my blue ball cap on back words, and my blue watch on.

I go down stairs with my black backpack, and tell my mom I’m going to the stream to catch crayfish for the day. ‘Okay, but be home by 6:00’. ‘I will mom’.

I’m walking though the woods. With lunch in my backpack I finally make it to the stream. I take a clear container out of my backpack.

I put my finger in the water. The next thing I know I’m pulling my finger because a crayfish is on it. I start to pull on my on the crayfish off my finger. Finally I get it off, and put it in the container. I take it home to show my mom she said ‘cool’.

A great day wish would happen is if I woke up one morning and my dog, Dandy was still alive. I would wake up, go down and hug her. I would go get dressed in my blue jeans, and my red play shirt. Then I would slip on my old tennis shoes, and Dandy and I would go play, because she was my first dog ever. I would play catch, Frisbee, as long as she would play too. I would get out my horse Joe, and run along beside Dandy. I would be so exited I would forget about breakfast! I would run inside with Dandy, I would eat my cereal and Dandy would eat her dog food. Dandy’s sister Blue would come too she would eat right beside Dandy. Blue would love for Dandy to still be alive, she really misses her, and I do too.

After breakfast we would go play again, we could go skip stones at the creek in the woods, we could do anything safe! We could go see the chickens, even the rabbits! But best of all, we would see the horses. After all, she was an Australian Cattle dog! And we didn’t have any cows, so the horses were Dandy’s pick! Chasing the horses was her thing! She would help my mom with the horse feeding, she would run up and down the hill chasing a pack of 9 horses at a time!

My favorite thing to do with Dandy was to read. I could real 5 books to her if I wanted to. I could read books about dogs, cats, farm animals, anything! But Dandy and my favorite book was the book about critters! I pulled my pink L cap out of my book bag and because the sun was coming out, and I started reading the story. As soon as I was done reading I could hear my mom calling for us, so we ran through the woods, down the pasture, and onto the porch, go in and eat dinner.

It would be such a great moment if I had I more day with Dandy, even know she was a handful!

One morning I woke up, I went down stairs to eat breakfast my mom made eggs, pancakes, bacon, French toast, and other stuff. After I was done I went outside to play in the woods.

Like I always do, I go to the pond pull up my jeans stick my feet in the water and relax. I always sing to the animals and when I start singing they come rushing to me to hear the great sound of music. The birds on my arms singing along with me. Frogs, and crickets chirping along with me.

I get up and walk around the woods singing, and laughing and having a great time. While all the animals big, and small following me , and the more I walk around the woods the more the animals have fun. After a while we turn around , and start back to are homes. When I get home I go get my brother, sister, and family then go outside play games , go back inside and eat then my family leaves, I play with my cat in bed then we fall asleep and I dream that same day over again.

I first woke When up I took my daily yawn. The first thing I smelled was my sister Kelly’s hair products. It isn’t the first thing I want to smell, but since she gets up earlier I have to

Once I get my slippers on I go wake my other sister Katy up. Then we go get breakfast. Sometimes my Mom makes us breakfast others we get it on our own.

After I eat I go upstairs to get dressed. Today I’m wearing a green shirt with purple Bermuda shorts. My clothes depend on by mood. If I wear dark colors I’m in a bad mood. If I wear bright colors I am in a good mood. Obviously today is a good mood day.

When I go downstairs I see my Grandma waiting for me. I tell her good mourning and she asks me to go get my sisters so we can go to her house. Once I get them I tell my dog goodbye and we leave. On the way to her house she tells us that today is suppost to be one of the hottest days in summer.

Once we arrive I go right to work with helping her. She needs to clean her garage, weed her flowers, get her newspaper, and take out her garbage. We do these things everyday except sometimes we go shopping.

When lunch comes we eat our sandwiches and then go watch Who wants to be a Millionaire and Family Feud. After that I decide I want to go outside again. I grab my book then go outside. So I go outside and sit in the grass. I sit Native American style. I sit reading an open book. But before I went out my sister braided my hair. Then a little ladybug crawls onto my page. I like to read out loud. All of sudden a little yellow bird sits on top of my book. Then all of the sudden a chipmunk sits on my shoulder. Then a gust of wind blows a piece of my hair. Then I calmly go to sleep. Then my Mom comes and wakes me up. When I go home I see my Dad. He made dinner. Then I go get my bath and go to bed.

Dear Dave,

This sculpture project was a very rewarding art project for our school students. I believe every student enjoyed it and learned a lot from this project. It was very enjoyable to see all the students and faculty involved in this and that it will have a permanent home at our school. Great work!!!!!

Artist Dave, It was so nice meeting such a positive person. I enjoyed placing clay on the statue. This was a great learning experience for staff and students. Thank you.

Dear Artist Dave,
I think having you here at Keystone was a great experience for all the students and staff. My son really got in to coming up with ideas for the sculpture. It really made alot of the students dig deep in to their imagination. In today's society, kids don't have to use much imagination because of the play stations and xbox equipment. Once the students tapped in to their imaginations, they got excited. It was great to see their excitement and how you peaked their interests. What a great job you did!! Keep doing what you are doing!!

Artist Dave,
It was amazing how quickly you were able to start with pieces of clay and end up with such a beautiful sculpture.

Dear Artist Dave,

Several times when I walked by the lobby during one of your classes I was very impressed by your teaching of the various muscles in the human body. You have been blessed with a tremendous talent. Thank you for sharing with us @ Keystone.

Having Artist Dave at our school was very interesting! It was so exciting to watch the sculpture form. Every time something new was added to the sculpture, a new level of excitement traveled through the school. It was amazing to see how Artist Dave created the many layers of the sculpture with her bones first, then her different body parts with skin, and finally her clothes. The children learned about the many bones, muscles, and body parts. Their excitement skyrocketed when they were all able to help add clay pieces to the sculpture. They will be able to tell their family and friends where their particular addition to the sculpture was.
Very enjoyable!
